Kyle MacNeil was born and raised on the forgotten isle of Cape Breton, Canada in 1982. He is the eldest son of Lennie MacNeil and Jean MacDougall. He has three siblings: Amanda, Jarett and Jordan.
In 2010, Kyle emigrated to China. He moved to the city of Hangzhou, the capital and largest city of Zhejiang province. There, he began his twelve-year career as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher.
Kyle married his wife, Maria, in 2015. Because of the distance between their hometowns, they celebrated their union with two ceremonies: one in the city of Sydney, Canada and the other in Nantong, China.
Along with friends, Kyle helped grow Hangzhou’s first ice-hockey league, the Hangzhou Westlakers. He also designed their promotional media and created their official website. For more information about the Westlakers, you can check out this CBC Nova Scotia article.
Kyle and Maria returned to Canada in 2022, and now live in Sydney, Nova Scotia with their dog, Raiden.
